Why is Fat Graft with PRP Better?

What is PRP?

Human blood contains blood cells (erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets) and plasma. The main role of platelets is blood clotting. However, platelets also contain a lot of growth factors which can prevent tissue damage and promote healing. PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma) is a plasma, which contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. PRP has great results in orthopedic surgery but lately it also showed promising results in plastic surgery.

What is fat grafting with PRP?

Fat transfer is a great option for restoring volume or augmentation. Fat harvested from one site (abdomen, back, thighs, flanks, etc.) can be transferred to another site (breasts, buttocks, cheeks, hips, nasolabial folds, etc.) to increase the volume. However, usually, there is a problem with survival of transferred fat. At the best, survival rate of transferred fat is 50-60%. Surgeon technique has a lot of influence on fat viability. Nowadays, PRP is added to transferred fat to increase the survival rate of fat and it provides magnificent results.

Process

PRP is prepared from a small amount of blood collected from the patient. The blood is centrifuged so that the plasma and platelets are separated from the rest of blood cells. Such PRP is then added to purified fat, which is harvested from the body. This mixture of fat cells and PRP is then transferred to the desired area.

Advantages

One of the main advantages of PRP is that it is collected from the patient and there are no adverse effects. Fat grafting with PRP has a higher fat viability than a simple fat grafting. It also helps in reducing bruising and inflammation.

Common uses of fat grafting with PRP

Fat grafting with PRP and BBL and breast augmentation?

PRP can be very helpful in patients which have only one shoot to get their desired look. If you have a small amount of excess fat and you want to get a bigger buttocks or hips, then a fat transfer with PRP is a great option for you. PRP will increase the survival of transferred fat, which can make a significant difference. It is also the best technique which will give your buttocks new rounder shape.

Breast augmentation is the most common plastic surgery procedure. Many patients want to get breast augmentation, but they are afraid of breast implants. In this case, a fat transfer might be the right choice. Fat transfer to breasts can increase breasts up to 1/2- 1 bra cup size. However, the survival rate of transferred fat can’t be controlled and predicted. For patients which desire prominent change in size, a PRP can be added to harvested fat to increase the viability of transferred fat.

Fat grafting with PRP and cheek augmentation

If you are considering a cheek augmentation, then you have a few options: fillers, fat transfer, implants.
